Last Class

Yesterday was the last class for this blogging and social media class.
First, we planned to eat the hamburger that is made firstly in the world.
However, the restaurant was closed, so we went to the public high school in New Haven.

Since this school focuses on educating arts such as visual art, dancing, acting and so on.
The school was really different from those of Japan, and it was interesting for me.

After visiting the school, we went to Ashly's, which is famous for delicious ice cream!

It was really good, but what was surprising for me was that although I just ordered "medium," the ice cream was much larger than "large" in Japan.

Through this class, I could learn many cultural differences between the United States and Japan.
Also after I come back to Japan, I want to value experiences I got during these six weeks.
Thank you, Julia!

Yale Peabody Museum

This Monday, we went to the Yale Peabody Museum.
It exhibits many variety of things such as fossils, the bones of apes, Native American's stuffs, things about Machu Picchu and so on.

However, out of them, what was most exciting for me was the stuffed animals especially birds ones.
I like the way this museum exhibit them.
They are well ordered to make it easy to understand the group or characteristics.
Moreover, I was very surprised that all of these birds can be seen in here, Connecticut.

Also, there are many minerals.
These minerals in these pictures are only a small part of the minerals which can be seen in this museum.

Whatever you want to see, if you visit here, you could find it, so why not go there?

Return to Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History

On Monday, I went to Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History again.
Researches of Yale University were surprising and exciting. Look at this a turtle. It is so big. Almost all of the exhibits are well preserved.

One of the most interesting exhibits for me is this skeleton. It is Homo erectus which was extincted before Homosapiens. It is the same as Java Man and was not human ancestor, which was surprisingly, 1.66 million years old.
You can learn the knowledge of human beings, animals, minerals and so on here, where is a place stuffed with our curiousity about the world.

Industries of New Haven

Today is fun day because we visit the historical museum in New Haven.
I was thinking that we have less opportunity to know about history of New Haven,
even though we are now here.

After we payed for entry fee (two dollars per person for students discount), we could see a lot of contents regarding New Haven's history. My initial impression of the city was  just collage town, but the city has many remarkable history, culture, and industries. I would like to focus on industry in New Haven at today's blog entry.

According to display, New Haven was one of the most industrial city in U.S. in 19th century.
The kind of industries were, for example, bewildering variety of goods including hardware, carriages, automobile parts, accessories, corsets, clocks, carpeting, rubber overshoes, clothing, musical instruments and small consumer goods.

One of the famous industry was bicycle production. There are several type of old bicycle.

Next one is corsets industry. It is said that New Haven was biggest industry area of corsets production in the world in 19th century.

The concentration of such industries was due to the presence of harver where was able to gather coal, metals, cotton, and other raw materials from production area.

Anyway, I found that New Haven has more interesting history, especially industries,  than I expected.
I excited to visit the museum.

Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History

Today, I missed to meet at an appointed point for our class at 1;30pm., so I went to Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History alone. It was so amazing place. Actually, I didn't know there but I regret I didn't go until today after seeing it and coming back now. You can get histrical knowledge of pre-history and stuffed animals and insects. I admired such a magnificent, great nature and ecological Earth.
